Bodo Wentz: Fallsucht (Falling Sickness)
Ceramic, 1983
The original of this sculpture is in the
German Epilepsy Museum in Kork.
The ceramic depicts two essential moments of the disease epilepsy.
Firstly the medical aspect: the brain as the source of the disease, and the "seizure" of the person suffering from epilepsy as the impressive symptom of the disease.
Secondly it portrays the psycho-social aspect: the chronic disease "epilepsy" leading to exclusion, social isolation, desolation, retreating ("into one's shell").
